Dental Sealants

Cavities can be devastating for your child’s oral health, but their teeth can be protected through dental sealants. Dental sealants are a preventative measure that’s highly effective for protecting children’s teeth. Under Dr. Raj Khurana, we can work to protect your family’s dental health through gentle touch and compassionate dental care.

How Dental Sealants Protect Your Child’s Teeth

Children face a higher risk of cavities during the ages of 6 to 14, and one of the most common places they experience cavities is along the back molars. The back molars have pits and fissures that can trap bacteria and food particles, and for children learning to brush their teeth, their toothbrushes can’t always reach into those crevices, leading to cavities.

Dental sealants were created to solve this problem. Dental sealants are thin, liquid coatings that harden on the chewing surfaces of molars. They prevent cavities by blocking bacteria from entering the crevices and even stop cavities where decay has begun. Under proper care, sealants can last up to 10 years!

Sealants can also be used to seal baby teeth with deep depressions and grooves and help keep their teeth healthy so they won’t lose them early. Even adults can benefit from dental sealants, especially if they have done without decay or fillings in their molars. Dental Sealant Treatments Offered at Dental Care 4 U

These sealants are essential for children’s oral health, as they’re an effective way to prevent decay. At Dental Care 4 U, our team can provide dental sealants to protect your child’s teeth through these simple steps:

  • Teeth Cleaning: The teeth that need to be sealed are first thoroughly cleaned by Dr. Raj Khurana, including scraping any bacteria or plaque along the tooth’s outer enamel. After cleaning, the areas will be dried with cotton.
  • Acid Solution: An acid solution will be lightly placed on the teeth to roughen up the enamel. Doing so creates a porous surface for the sealant to attach to. Once applied, the acid solution is rinsed off, and the tooth is dried for the sealant.
  • Sealant Placement: Lastly, the sealant is painted onto the tooth’s enamel. The sealant will bond with the enamel and harden, and curing light may be used to help the sealant harden further.
