The treatment to straighten your teeth by means of braces is called orthodontics.

It remains the most efficient and fool – proof way to achieve perfectly aligned natural teeth. Though it is ideal to get braces during your teenage years, many people get braces at a later stage as well. The ideal period for braces can vary from 1-3 years, depending on your teeth structure and need.

There are different types of braces present today:-

  • Traditional metal braces – These are the oldest and still the most common type of braces. Made of stainless-steel metal clasps and wires, these braces are fixed on top of the teeth and they slowly move them into correct position.
  • Self -ligating braces – Though like traditional braces, these braces avoid elastic and hence cause less friction between the teeth. A clip in the wire, put the teeth into desired position.
  • Ceramic braces – These aesthetic braces are least noticeable as the brackets are clear and do not show. Those who are self -conscious prefer these to traditional braces. They do take more time than traditional braces to be effective and can get easily damaged. They are also more expensive.
  • Clear Aligners – These invisible removable trays are used to align your teeth. They are hardly noticeable and can be taken off while eating and drinking, hence, are easy to maintain.
